MelissaMelissa Crystal O'Neil was born on the 12th of July in 1988.] She is a Canadian singer and actress. In 2005, O'Neil won the third season of Canadian Idol, the first Canadian female to have won. In her role as an actress, she is known for her roles as Two or Rebecca as Two / Rebecca / Portia Lin on the Syfy science fiction show Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama The Rookie.Although she was greatly praised by judges, she had a huge setback in both the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals, as she was voted in the lowest three and the bottom two in both the bottom three and bottom two. The judges were stunned by this and urged viewers to vote Melissa for her vocal talents. From that point on, O'Neil never fell back to the bottom of the list after repeatedly receiving praise for her performances, with judge Zack Werner declaring that she was "a potential winner of the whole contest". O'Neil, along with Rex Goudie, made it to the finals on September 7, 2005. Werner, a judge famously stated that the headlines of the following day's papers would be "The King [Kalan Porter] is dead. The Queen will live forever." O'Neil defeated Goudie at the grand finale results ceremony on September 14, 2005. O'Neil was also crowned the third Canadian Idol and the first female winner.
